Should I? Shouldn't I?
Will I create a channel or not?
This was the voice in my head, for a good few weeks before I thought "Just go for it, what is there to lose?"
YouTube is such a massive part of our lives these days with so many children following various successful tubers around the world. I am happy to join in the fun and, in time once my confidence grows, some silliness.
I'm not quite the age for TikTok (truth be told - I don't understand it!) and that might come in the future as well, if I ever get the hang of videoing myself, because I'm not used to being in front of a camera. Photographs are great, but a video is different as I can hear me speaking - it's like listening to myself back on an answer machine message, #cringe
However, it was time to give YouTube a try so start small, with what I know, and build from there. I decided to start with my two books so for each, I wrote a script, read it over and over again, spoke to the webcam a number of times to practice it more, then...pressed record...and promptly fumbled things within a few words. That little light confirming 'record' doesn't half mess with your confidence on the first attempts! Though with some perseverance, after, let's say a few tries, I finally got through the entire script I was happy with. Happy with the video and quite proud of my first ever 'proper' recording, I uploaded it to YouTube. Whoop! whoop!
I have loved every second of the process and actually don't feel quite as much of a tube as I did when I started. It is such fun and worth every giggle in the process - my many bloopers had me in stitches. What is life if you can't laugh at yourself and this journey sometimes?!
The funniest part for me was this evening though, when my children discovered "Mum is a YouTuber" and watched both videos. Apparently, I smile too much. Haha! Can you ever smile too much?! Thankfully, they are not too embarrassed by my attempt (though I must try harder next time, haha!) and it has spurred me on to try something else.
I have new books in the pipeline and will promote those in due course, but in the meantime was wondering if anyone would be interested in a feature called 'Fiona Reads' where I choose one of the many well-loved children's books we have in our house and share them with you and yours?
Please let me know your thoughts and if there is a favourite book your children would like me to read?
And finally, this wouldn't be a YouTube article if I didn't at some point ask you to kindly LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to my channel (Fiona Lowry - YouTube)
Huge thank you for reading this and I look forward to your comments.
