March was a very busy month behind the scenes for me. I had a feature in Writers' Narrative, Magazine, Meeting Pip was also featured on Petit Pois Pod podcast, and I had exciting news and honour of being a finalist in the Book Excellence Awards 2024.
The largest behind-the-scenes news is the creation of my new logo and imprint for my independently published books.
I am delighted to announce that Three Geese and a Gander is now my publisher's name and you will begin to see this very soon on available books.
'Why this name?' I hear you ask.😂
I have many happy memories from growing up in Saline on a small holding, with 400 hens, 16 sheep, 3 pigs, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, a dog... three geese, and a gander. For me, this had a great ring to it for children's books, rolls off the tongue, and well, had a funny story behind it about my Grandad and how he dealt with the geese, who did not like him much.
Living in the country with so many animals, my grandparents would often help when they came to visit. To collect our hen's eggs, you had to venture past the grumpy and hissing geese. One day, I remember watching my Grandad carrying a pitchfork as he went through the gate. The gander could sense anyone nearby (he was a great guard for the house!) and as he made a beeline for Grandad, head low to the ground, hissing loudly, Grandad happened to catch his neck between the prongs of a pitchfork he was holding and gently pinned the gander to the ground. Much to his delight, the gander fell silent in shock, and Grandad safely collected the eggs with a skip in his step.
It was hilarious to watch and has stuck with me ever since.
No animals - or humans - were harmed in this event and the gander was released once Grandad was safely on the other side of the gate!
However, the gander also thought twice before ever trying to bite Grandad again, haha!
With a memory that makes me smile, filled with love and joy for my family and appreciation of the incredibly lucky upbringing I had, full of freedom, imagination, and positivity, Three Geese and a Gander was the obvious choice as my publisher's logo for my children's books.
